Clarice Smith Center for Performing Arts

Location: University of Maryland College Park, MD
Client: Turner Construction/MTI
Architect: MRY

The Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts anchors the campus of the University of Maryland as a monumental masonry project. Completed in 2001, the expressive project architecture features a masonry veneer comprised of over 1,000,000 custom brick and architectural precast units. Equally outstanding, the interior partitions of the facility are detailed with over 500,000 concrete masonry units that service the high quality acoustical standards required in the multiple practice and performance spaces from the proscenium theatre to the segmented levels at the main concert hall.
